Job Description

Job Purpose / Summary

As an Assistant Payroll Manager, you will be part of a high-performing payroll advisory and managed services team, delivering end-to-end payroll solutions to a portfolio of local clients. You will play a key role in ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction while supporting business growth in payroll outsourcing.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll delivery for a portfolio of clients across industries
  • Review payroll outputs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Mauritian legislation (CSG, NSF, Levy, New NPF, PAYE, PRGF)
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, addressing queries and providing accurate payroll advisory support
  • Lead payroll implementation and transition projects for new clients
  • Ensure timely submission of statutory filings and regulatory compliance
  • Manage payroll reconciliations, reporting, and analytics for clients
  • Drive process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Supervise, coach, and develop junior team members
  • Support internal/external audits and risk management procedures

Job Requirement

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, HR, or related discipline
  • 5–8 years of payroll experience, preferably in a consulting or outsourcing environment
  • Strong knowledge of Mauritian payroll legislation and compliance frameworks
  • Proven experience managing client relationships and multiple engagements
  • Proficiency in payroll systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Professional certification (ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) is an advantage but not mandatory

 

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in end-to-end payroll processing and controls
  • In-depth knowledge of Mauritian payroll legislation and statutory requirements (CSG, NSF, New NPF, Levy, PAYE, PRGF)
  • Ability to review and validate complex payroll calculations, reconciliations, and reports
  • Proficiency in payroll systems and advanced Microsoft Excel (e.g., data analysis, reconciliations, reporting)
  • Experience in managing multiple client engagements in a payroll outsourcing environment
  • Understanding of payroll compliance, audit requirements, and risk management frameworks
  • Ability to drive process improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives
