Job Description
Job Purpose
The Laboratory Assistant supports the laboratory in
carrying out tests on construction materials to ensure their compliance with
applicable standards, technical specifications, and the company’s quality
requirements.
The Laboratory Assistant also contributes to sample tracking, equipment maintenance, and the preparation of test reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect,
receive, register, and identify material samples (concrete, cement,
aggregates, sand, steel, asphalt mixes, etc.).
- Prepare
samples for various laboratory tests.
- Conduct
laboratory tests in accordance with established procedures and applicable
standards.
- Perform
tests on fresh and hardened concrete (slump test, preparation of test
specimens, compressive strength testing, etc.).
- Carry
out tests on aggregates, soils, and other construction materials.
- Ensure
the calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Accurately
record and document test results.
- Prepare
technical reports under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager.
- Immediately
report any non-conformities or anomalies observed during testing.
- Comply
with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) procedures and
requirements.
- Maintain
a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Participate in on-site testing activities when required.
Required Skills
Technical Skills
- Knowledge
of construction materials.
- Understanding
of laboratory testing methods for concrete, aggregates, and soils.
- Ability
to read drawings and technical specifications (an asset).
- Proficiency
in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge
of ASTM, BS, EN, or other applicable standards (an asset).

Qualifications
- Diploma
(Bac+2) in Construction, Materials Laboratory Technology, Civil
Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous
experience in a construction materials laboratory would be an advantage.
