Job Description

Our client in the import and export sector is seeking to recruit an Agency Manager who will oversee the team of Shipping Agents and Shipping Executives, and is accountable for their performance and results. He/She develops plans for resource utilisation and oversees the implementation of workflow improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and optimise the use of the organisation's resources.  Liaison with Principals is one of the most important roles. This includes follow up on communicated policies from the latter. 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration with Principals.
  • Analyse market data to identify business opportunities.
  • Analyse risk management data.
  • Coordinate with port authority, terminal operators and statutory boards to ensure that ships call into port comply with all regulatory requirements.
  • Develop business functions plan or unit plans.
  • Develop strategies for resource planning and utilisation.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, hauliers, ship owners, shipping lines, agents and customers.
  • Manage compliance to risk management frameworks, policies and processes.
  • Manage issues that arise from cargo operations.
  • Monitor the targets achieved against performance indicators.
  • Oversee billings and accounting for clients, ship owners and shipping lines.
  • Oversee implementation of workflow improvements to improve efficiency.
  • Prepare and analyse reports on ship agency activities.

Profile:

  • The ideal candidate should hold a degree in Management or a related field, with at least 10 years' working experience in a similar managerial position. 
  • Strong knowledge of shipping agency operations, resource planning, risk management and stakeholder coordination is essential. 
  • The role requires excellent leadership, analytical and interpersonal skills to effectively manage teams, liaise with principals and ensure operational excellence.
