The Technical Manager’s key role will be to develop and enhance underwriting philosophies and procedures according to the needs of the company and provide high-level expertise and guidance in technical insurance matters.
The Technical Manager’s key accountabilities will be:
- Develop and enhance underwriting philosophies and procedures according to the needs of the company
- Provide high-level expertise and guidance in technical insurance matters;
- Calculate possible risk and estimate insurance premium
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with brokers and other stakeholders
- Regular calls/visits to clients and prepare quotes
- Study insurance proposals, gather and assess background information, including reports where appropriate, in order to effectively assess the risk involved;
- Keep detailed and accurate records of policies underwritten and decisions made.
- Any other Technical duties as and when the company requires.
Person Specification
- Strong underwriting experience (approximately 5 years’ experience in non-life insurance);
- Be ACII qualified or progressing towards ACII qualification;
- Industry specific analytics in the insurance space;
- Knowledge of relevant insurance regulatory frameworks
- Experience of the insurance and Reinsurance sector
- Effective analytical underwriting skills;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Strong oral and written fluency in both English and French
- Negotiation skills and the ability to influence others
- The ability to absorb technical information
- Confident decision-making skills
- Numeracy and statistical skills
- Problem-solving skills and a logical approach to work
- Self motivated
- Ability to work independently including effective scheduling, prioritisation and time management skills and completing tasks to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work as part of a wider global team
