This role supports clients by resolving tax issues, processing amendments, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local agencies.

About the Opportunity

The Tax Resolution Specialist IV is a critical client-facing role that acts as the primary liaison between clients and federal, state, and local tax agencies. You will research, prepare, and process amendments and agency notices with accuracy while ensuring compliance and maintaining strong client relationships. This position supports a high-volume operational environment and requires shift flexibility, with assignments on either the night shift (4:00/5:00 PM – 1:00/2:00 AM) or the mid-shift (11:30 AM – 8:30 PM) based on business needs.

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Resolve and process a wide range of tax jurisdiction correspondence and amendment forms, from simple to complex.
  • Research and analyze issues that result in out-of-compliance notices and respond promptly to tax agency inquiries.
  • Prepare and file original and amended federal, SSA, state, and local tax returns.
  • Provide accurate, timely customer service resolutions for client inquiries.
  • Communicate with tax agencies to gather, analyze, and interpret information needed for compliant filings.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders—via phone, email, and fax—to obtain information and required approvals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws, agency requirements, and regulatory changes across federal, state, and local levels.
  • Interpret and work with both electronic and printed information.
  • Assist with tax filing processes and participate in cross-training where needed.
  • Manage the full end-to-end amendment process, including all preparatory work.
  • Negotiate with agencies and customers to reach fair and effective resolutions.
  • Follow strict policies to maintain compliance, minimize tax risks, and identify required payments to reduce penalties and interest.
  • Partner with internal teams to resolve issues, remove workflow barriers, and support process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients, agencies, and internal teams.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities with accuracy.
  • Highly organized with strong follow-up skills and a demonstrated sense of urgency.
  • Excellent attention to detail and adherence to processes, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts: Night Shift (4:00/5:00 PM – 1:00/2:00 AM) or Mid-Shift (11:30 AM – 8:30 PM).

Education/Experience and Other Requirements

  • Associate degree or 1–3 years of experience in tax, payroll, accounting, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • FPC certification through the American Payroll Association preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret information in both electronic and printed formats.
