Award winning Mauritius law firm is looking for a Senior Barrister / Lawyer to head its legal service delivery team in Mauritius. Geroudis provides services in regional Indian Ocean islands and Mauritius, and is looking to extend is services to Africa within the next 3 years.

 

This growing organization will allow you to lead the service delivery department with a mix of management and legal skills and be the lead lawyer at the office.

 

This position is open to Mauritian and foreign lawyers. Foreign lawyers pre-qualifying is those practicing in either of South Africa, UK, Australia or New Zealand.

The Senior Barrister will lead the service delivery department, set up and manage 5 to 7 FTE barristers and paralegals, as well as have his own work advising on technical, strategic and procedural aspects across the spectrum of problems although focus will be on providing Mauritius law advice on corporate and finance, competition, fraud and intellectual property law advice. the work consists mainly of advisory work and to a lesser extent and mainly for complex or specialized cases litigation and support.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide a high quality legal service to all Geroudis clients;
  • To have as main core, own set of billable work done;
  • Establishing what needs to be done to solve client’s problems;
  • To develop and maintain good client relationship skills;
  • Manage 'work in progress and debt' in accordance with business standards
  • Responsible for the quality of client services provided by self and direct reports including support staff
  • Offering advice on the law, legal procedures and a wide range of associated issues
  • Attend and represent Geroudis at client meetings
  • Draw up contracts and other legal documents
  • Represent clients in tribunals. other relevant forums, and in Courts where required
  • Responsible for building and maintaining productive working relationships with clients and staff alike
  • Responsible for preparation of fee matter estimates and quotations
  • Expected to contribute to the management and development of junior fee earners
  • Responsible for ensuring effective management of time, effort and resources in order to generate maximum efficiencies
  • To participate in optimization of policies, processes and SKUs.
  • To participate in the growth and development of the firm, new business and service delivery orientation.

 

 

Competencies:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with 8  to 15 years post qualification experience
  • Experience is essential
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Must possess analytical skills
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, good verbal and written communication skills and computer skills are required
  • Must be able to perform under pressure with minimum supervision
  • Must be focused and productive
  • Build commercial awareness and share knowledge and relevant new information with your immediate team in know how sessions
  • Keep up to date with technology and business tools relevant to the role
  • Be proactive in ensuring all financial matters are timely and up to date
  • Assist with the coaching of bursary students and summer interns as and when appropriate
  • Promote team work and develop strong relationships with immediate team members
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal - the role involves liaison with internal and external people at a senior level
  • A self starter, able to demonstrate high levels of initiative and motivation, but also work closely with other team members and displaying trust and loyalty
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks in an assertive, efficient and timely manner
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating professionalism in all dealings. Able to deal sympathetically and appropriately with clients and to show empathy with them

  • Must be able to multitask and keep calm under pressure
  • The flexibility to work outside normal office hours as may be required from time-to-time
