Key objective of this function is to manage all operations on a day-to-day basis. The objective is to make sure that performance and cost control hit targets so as to maintain business profitability, while ensuring safety of the operations. Please see below job description.

 

Key objectives:

Day-to-Day operations management

  • Planning the routes
  • Fleet allocation
  • Staff roster
  • Performance measurement KPI’s
  • Relationship with Authorities (day-to-day)

-  Staff management

  • Recruiting, Hiring, Training
  • Performance monitoring
  • Succession planning
  • Industrial relationships and relationship management

 Fleet management

  • Fleet replacement and planning
  • Fleet maintenance
  • Tyres, consumables
  • Cost monitoring per vehicle, per vehicle type

-  Cost control

  • Making sure that costs are controlled in line with budget and Key ratios (cpk – Cost per Km)
  • Fleet mix – Fleet renewal/replacement, matching traffic demand
  • Route / Frequency profitability analysis and optimisation

-  Safety

  • Ensuring safe operations – through equipment and procedures (SOP) upkeep on the road and in the depots
  • Applying Total Quality Management Practices : preventative measures, incident tracking, root-cause analysis, SOP adjustment

Experience and track record

  • 10+ years professional experience
  • Experience in the supply chain or Passenger transport industry, preferably on the Service provider side
  • Demonstrated track record of Operations success in labour intensive environments
  • Track record of conflict resolution and successful Industrial relations
  • Track record of cost cutting and cost reduction program
  • Track record of safety related performance in Operations

Education

  • Degree in logistic and transport management
