DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Management role:
- Assist the Group Legal Manager with day-to-day contracts and compliance;
- Ensure high ethical and moral standards are maintained and assist in the promotion of Health Safety Environmental and Security standards and procedures and Anti-Bribery and Corruption laws.
2. Legal risk:
- Provide legal advice on all contracts, tenders, documents, ongoing client claims.
- Liaise with departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified and where information is required to give feedback to clients and appropriate courses of action have been taken;
- Provide and interpret legal information, and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to the Group;
- Manage Group legal risks and ensure a proactive approach and not reactive approach.
- Keep Senior Management up to date of any risk and ensure that the operational and financial performance of the Group is maintained.
3. Contract negotiation:
- Review all contracts where the Company has committed itself.
- Assist in commercial and contractual negotiations.
- Maintain an up to date list of all indemnities extended and ensure where possible insurance is secured and liaise with Legal Managers to ensure no unnecessary legal risk exists;
4. Policy development:
- Review and advise Group Legal Manager and Human Resources on internal group policies and procedures and assist with drafting and amendments to ensure in line with global strategy and communicate to Legal Managers;
5. Litigation Management:
- Review progress of outstanding litigation at Group level and liaise with and manage communication with external lawyers through Legal Manager(s);
6. Legal/Regulatory compliance:
- Should be able to create a legal audit and check each countries compliance with Group policies and procedures and assist to draft documentation;
- Ensure legal compliance with all local legislation and international legislation and ensure all licenses, environmental approvals and all exposure is reduced;
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Pro-active management and leadership style with attention to detail, assertiveness and ability to work in a dynamic work environment;
- Excellent relationship management, analytical and communication skills;
- Provide independent legal advice and solutions (orally and in writing) to Group Legal Manager;
- Excellent planning and organizational skills;
- Decision making skills;
- Conflict management ability;
- Bachelor of Laws;
- Experience required (minimum/maximum): 3-6 years, preferably in Transport and/or Logistics and/or Legal experience in a Law Firm and/or in an International Company;
- 2 years of practical legal experience;
- Knowledge of and experience with laws across the region;
- IT knowledge (word; excel; power point; outlook);
- Full command of English language, both written and spoken; (Portuguese is a bonus);
- Time availability (whenever needed to conduct audits);
