Database Engineer

The Mauritius Cargo Community Services Limited (MACCS) is company that operates the Cargo Community System (CCS) to secure and facilitate trade operations in Mauritius. The nature of its operation relies on a highly competent technical team made up of talented and experienced engineers.

The ideal candidate should:

• Have a bachelor degree in Computer Science or any equivalent qualifications which may be acceptable to the management
• At least 3 years’ experience working with Microsoft Windows and Linux Servers
• At least 2 years’ experience working with RDBMS including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL databases
• Possess at least OCA certification or must have followed OCA/OCP trainings
• Be experienced in physical and virtual environments including infrastructure and datacentre components
• Have a solid knowledge in setting up and administering databases
• Be proficient with scripting languages and tools such as Linux Shell and Microsoft Windows PowerShell
• Have excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
• Be disciplined, self-motivated, proactive and team player
• Be fluent in written and spoken English and French
• Should be able to work at odd hours
• Be agile and eager to learn

Experience and certifications in following fields would be a definite advantage: Oracle Virtualisation, Oracle, SQL Server database replication, database clustering.    

Key Responsibilities:

The Database Engineer shall report to the head of IT operations.  The day-to-day role and responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

• Provision and administer the organisation’s databases
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve issues related to databases and related systems and applications
• Plan, setup and implement data replication mechanism based on RTO and RPO requirements
• Perform risk analysis of the IT infrastructure and recommend solutions
• Work in collaboration with other technical and non-technical staffs
• Document operation procedures and problem resolutions for future references
