Asst Golf Superintendent

 

General overview of the job description.

Under the general supervision of the golf course superintendent, direct and participate in the construction and
maintenance of the golf course. Supervises the operation, maintenance and repair of motorized and mechanical
equipment and perform related tasks as required.

Typical tasks you will be required to perform:
  • Assist in planning, scheduling and supervising the construction and maintenance of putting greens, tees,
  • fairways, roughs and bunkers and associated facilities.
  • Supervises repair and maintenance of all mechanical and motorized equipment used on the golf course.
  • Instructs equipment operators in the safe, efficient operation and care of mowers and other equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pump, irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Scouts the golf course for potential problems and reports finding to the golf course superintendent.
  • Directs specific projects.
  • Maintains weather and microenvironmental records and equipment.

Prerequisites:
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions in English and French
  • Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy/plant/soil sciences desired or equivalent knowledge.
  • Certified and/or licensed in pesticide usage.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of the game of golf.


Working knowledge of:

  • Construction, turf establishment and cultural practices employed on golf course putting greens, tees, fairways,roughs and bunkers.
  • Planting and culture of the turfgrasses used on golf courses.
  • Planting cultivating and pruning of ornamental plants, shrubs and trees.
  • Proper use of fertilizers and soil conditioners.
  • Pest diagnosis and control methods, including materials.
  • Drainage system.
  • Watering practices and irrigation systems.
  • Equipment operation, servicing and repair.
  • Computer applications and operation.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise work to achieve the most efficient use of employees and equipment.
  • Effectively communicate with all employees and golf clientele.
  • Ensure that the Maintenance Facility Building (MFB), wash pad and change rooms are always kept in a neat and tidy state. Be proactive with the management of these areas.


Tasks Specific to Anahita Golf:

  • Draw up the daily work programme based on the weekly/monthly work programme and weather conditions.
  • Manage the efficient daily maintenance of the golf course as per the standards required.
  • Deputise for the Course Superintendent when required.
  • Evaluate the daily maintenance progress and prepare the programme for the following day.
  • Evaluate the water status of the golf course and schedule the irrigation as required to maintain turf health and optimal turf playing conditions.
  • Be proactive in scheduling maintenance and identifying areas which need attention.
  • Carry out the weekly course inspection and schedule maintenance accordingly.
  • Communicate to golf operations the daily disruptive maintenance practices being carried out.
  • Advise golf operations as to the suitability for the use of golf carts.
  • Make sure that wash pad pits are cleaned on a regular basis.
  • All equipment to be signed out before use and signed back in after use.
  • Equipment to be used in a safe and efficient manner for the job it is intended.
  • All large equipment is to re‐fuel at the end of work.
  • All machines, equipment and tools must we washed after work and returned to the MFB in neat and tidy condition.
  • Any problems with equipment or tools to be reported so that necessary repairs can be carried out.
  • All equipment to be parked neatly in the appropriate areas in the MFB after use.
  • Leave the wash pad and MFB in a neat and tidy condition at all times
  • Return the ignition key to the workshop staff once the machine has been parked for the day.
  • Should play golf to gain an understanding of the requirements of the golfer and how we need to adapt to meet this requirement.
