Senior Virtualization Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Virtualization Engineer will work with a team of Information Technology professionals to support and mature Ceridian’s global server infrastructure capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned VMWare professional with hands-on expertise in one or more core operating systems such as Microsoft Windows Server or Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Hands on experience with converged server infrastructure plus a strong working knowledge of network protocols and storage technologies are preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Administer and maintain the virtual server infrastructure portfolio in the capacity of a Level 3 subject matter expert
• Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the virtualization environment, related applications, and projects
• Develop, mature, and implement virtualization standards ensuring compliance with corporate security guidelines
• Collaborate with Infrastructure Architecture on the initiation, selection, design, and implementation of virtualization, cloud, and server technologies
• Create technical documentation - roadmaps, presentations, cost models, etc.
• Develop technical designs that can be deployed and managed by service providers
• Initiate operational and process improvements that increase the stability and overall operating efficiency of Ceridian’s corporate server technology portfolio
• Develop positive working relationships and actively manage the portfolio to established service levels
• Train and educate IT stakeholders on the value of virtualization and converged server solutions

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree and/or 8 years of related work experience in an enterprise datacentre environment. VMWare VCP Certification
• Ability to work successfully in a matrix management organization – many leaders and decision-makers need to be engaged and communicated to
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Good acumen in business relationship management & technology business benefit realization.

• Negotiation, influence, and relationship management strengths
• An inquiring mind with a distinct ability to abstract general principles from specifics
• Demonstrate a wide degree of creativity and lateral thinking

• Experience with multi-vendor server, storage and network technologies and solutions
• Good understanding of enterprise server, storage and networking concepts and traditional practices
• Good understanding of server virtualization technologies and practices
• Good understanding of performance, capacity and availability management technologies practices
• Good understanding of datacenter standards including power distribution and structured cabling
